Each spring, Washington D.C. holds a two-week festival commemorating Japan’s gift in 1912 of 3,000 cherry trees. The National Cherry Blossom Festival is one of Washington’s largest and most widely attended events. The selection of 65 princesses representing our states, territories and some foreign countries is a highlight of the event. The princesses will participate in a week-long series of activities and formal functions. The Queen, chosen at the end of the week, will have an opportunity to travel to Japan to represent the United States.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival is scheduled for March 29 - April 4, 2020 and it is now time to select the California State Society 2020 Cherry Blossom Princess. CSS is now accepting nominations for its representative to the annual Cherry Blossom Festival. A candidate must be a U.S. citizen and between 19-24 years old, and the individual selected participates in a week-long program in Washington, DC that offers cultural, educational and professional development opportunities for young leaders. If you are interested in nominating a candidate for this year’s California Cherry Blossom Princess, please send a short statement about the candidate and a one-page resume to firstname.lastname@example.org.
For additional details regarding the Cherry Blossom Princess and her responsibilities, you may visit the Cherry Blossom Festival website. The addition of the Junior Princess program now also provides an opportunity for individuals ages 5-12 to participate.
DEADLINE: Nominations must be submitted by Friday, December 13, 2019.
